Part D

Michael March 8, 2012

Part D is basically prescription drug coverage insurance.  Part D was designed to support people with Medicare to reduce their prescription drug costs and to protect against rising costs in future.  The coverage is voluntary, and the monthly premium varies depending on how much coverage you have.  A prescription drug plan will also let you have greater access to medically necessary drugs.  The only exception is that Medicare excludes drugs like cough suppressants, barbiturates, benzodiazepines and the like.  Unlike the other parts, the Medicare Part D is not standardized.  Plans are free to choose the drugs they wish to cover and exclude the rest.  (see also Part A, Part B, Part C)
